Our History

Medford, Oregon and Alba, Italy have been Sister Cities since 1960. President Eisenhower’s “People to People” program was created to promote international goodwill and to counteract the anti-goodwill and anti-American sentiment that was growing throughout the world in the late 1950’s.
Medford’s choice of international partners was based upon the similarities of our two cities, not on opportunities for commerce. This unique relationship has been built upon close personal friendships and continues to thrive after six decades of global turmoil. It is truly a program that unites people.
